Theme: When attempting to decide on a theme for my playlist, I had some difficulty choosing. A lot of the music I listen to does not fit into a “theme” in terms of the music itself. However, I have noticed I tend to seek out and listen to queer artists more often than not. I decided to explore queer artists for my playlist as it’s the best way to “get to know me” and a common theme throughout the music I listen to! I wanted each song to relate to a single emotion or feeling so that the entire playlist spans a broad spectrum of emotions relating to the LGBTQ+ experience.
Format: I wanted each song to correlate to a specific feeling. The order ranges from self-discovery and gender expression (Nxdia and Baths) pining and the first steps of a relationship (Renee Rapp, Dua Saleh, and Rae Khalil ), active relationships (Chappell Roan and Jasmine.4.t) as well as struggles within relationships (Arlo Parks and Omar Apollo), and finally a song about post-relationship pining (KingPrincess.)
Justification: While I understand that there are so many more artists/genres/songs that I could have chosen I wanted to choose songs by artists I listen to myself. I chose Apple Music as my platform because a lot of the artists featured I now listen to (Nxdia, Kingprincess, Arlo Parks) came via recommendations from Apple Music at one point.
